At Tyre Nichols’ funeral, Vice President Harris addressed the mourners.

Tyre Nichols’ family sat in Memphis, Tennessee, for his funeral, just weeks after the 29-year-old died after a violent encounter with Memphis police that was captured on body camera.

On Friday, graphic video of the Jan. 7 traffic stop, which showed officers beating Nichols, was made public, sparking nationwide outrage. Nichols, a young father who enjoyed skateboarding, died on January 10 after being hospitalised for three days.

Five officers involved in the incident were fired and charged with a variety of felonies, including second-degree murder.
Through tears, Nichols’ mother addresses the mourners.
RowVaughn Wells, Tyre Nichols’ mother, has “shown more strength and dignity,” according to the Rev. Al Sharpton.
Wells, through tears, described her son as a “beautiful person.”

She stated that Congress must pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act or “the next child that dies, that blood will be on their hands.”

Rodney Wells, Tyre Nichols’ stepfather, told the audience, “We’re looking forward to passing some bills” and getting justice for “all the families.”

“This is a never-ending battle,” he said.

Keyana Dixon, Nichols’ older sister, observed that even as her brother was being pulled out of his car, he remained polite.

“He was always saying, ‘Please stop,’ but they never did. That is why my family will never be the same again “Dixon stated.
